Many-Step Equation Solver

Solve equations that need several helpful moves. This version includes harder fraction structures such as (3x + 4)/2 = 17 and (x + 2)/3 + 1 = 6, shown with proper stacked fractions.

Working history

Step 0

Do the same thing to both sides

Try to get the equation into the form x = number.

Equation controls

Classroom prompt

Ask: “Which layer should we undo first?” These questions may require removing an outside constant, clearing a fraction, moving a numerator constant, and finally dividing by the coefficient of x.

Note: dividing by zero is blocked because it is undefined. Multiplying by zero is allowed as a demonstration, but the program warns that it destroys the information about the original value of x. New random questions include positive and negative solutions, and some answers may be fractions.
